Agricultural Science

The Department of Agricultural Science utilizes the NSC curriculum at Grades 7-9 and NCTVET and CSEC at Grades 10 & 11 and offers exciting and stimulating classes which are done theoretically and practically. The Grade 7-9 provides the foundation in Agricultural Science that is crucial to the students’ selection at Grade 10. The Department boast a success rate of 100% pass at the CSEC level.

While at Muschett the students are exposed to a variety of aspects of agriculture; these include Crop Production and Animal Science which includes the rearing of Poultry, Pigs, ducks, Rabbits, guinea pigs and bees. The Department also has a greenhouse which exposes the students to a different method of crop production.

The Department offers to students the opportunity to be certified in CSEC but also to be certified in Crop Production and General Agriculture; this has seen our students matriculating easily into Polytechnic Colleges and other Tertiary institutions which offer degree programmes in Agricultural Science.

Over the years the Department has participated in the Trelawny 4H club school garden competition where we were Parish champions for three (3) years and one year third place winner at the National Level. This has exposed our students to compete in varied areas where many of them got individual achievements. We also participate in the annual Minard show where our students also manage to win animals as their prizes.

Our Teachers continue to research on the best and current practices which are introduced to our students equipping them to matriculate or to be future entrepreneurs in the field of Agriculture.
